Taoti Talks with Ronit Avni, Founder and CEO of Localized, a new social enterprise focused on building strategic networks globally by connecting students to professionals.

TAOTI TALKS IS A REGULAR SERIES OF BLOG POSTS WITH AWESOME PEOPLE WHO ARE CHANGING THE WORLD THROUGH EMERGING TECHNOLOGY. EACH MONTH, WE FEATURE A LEADER WHO IS HAVING A REAL IMPACT AND MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

For our latest Taoti Talk, Stacy Whittle sat down with Ronit Avni, Founder and CEO of Localized, a new social enterprise that makes it easy for expat professionals from countries facing brain drains to give back without moving back. Localized enables diaspora professionals to mentor, train and teach remotely in their language of choice, turning the brain drain into a brain gain. Ronit’s work has been featured in dozens of global news outlets, including The Washington Post, The BBC, NPR, The Economist and The New York Times. Ronit is also an award-winning social entrepreneur, media strategist, nonprofit executive and filmmaker.

THE PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE HAS ITS ORIGINS IN A PARLOR GAME POPULARIZED (THOUGH NOT DEVISED) BY MARCEL PROUST, THE FRENCH ESSAYIST AND NOVELIST, WHO BELIEVED THAT, IN ANSWERING THESE QUESTIONS, AN INDIVIDUAL REVEALS HIS OR HER TRUE NATURE.

Stacy asked Ronit Avni a series of questions from the Proust Questionnaire. Here are her responses:

What is your current state of mind?

Focused, expectant and aware of the climb.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My ability to build teams that traverse and engage vastly different communities through media, and technology.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

People subjected to sustained, deliberate cruelty—especially when such acts impact children.

What is your most marked characteristic?

Practical boldness and the ability to build resilient, effective teams.

What do you most value in your friends?

Authenticity, creativity, the ability to set others at ease and not take themselves or me too seriously.

What is your motto?

“No fear, no ego.“  I don’t want to make decisions based on either. Also, “it may be longer and harder than you think (to achieve your goals), but you’re stronger than you think, too.”

What excites you about your job?

Connecting dots between employers, industry experts and students in emerging markets. The mission, the market opportunity, the people and the fact that we’re continually growing and building.
